It’s all about the people!

Sally Jeong originally chose Hotel Institute Montreux for the Luxury Brand Management Specialization, however after her first internship in a luxury hotel she has discovered that her talents and interests align more closely in the Human Resources field.

Sally Jeong Intern

Sally’s internship at Victoria Jungfrau Hotel has given her confidence that her understanding of the needs of the customer and communicating effectively with them are two of her biggest strengths. For Sally, the hospitality industry thrives when both customers and hospitality staff are fulfilled.

The HR Assistant at the hotel made a huge impression on me during my internship. I observed how she created a comfortable working environment for the staff by the gestures she made and the words she used. I know personnel management is not easy, but seeing the efforts and considerations she took to the staff’s welfare made me appreciate human resources a lot more. I think it’s very interesting to find out people’s qualities, strengths and weaknesses and then support them in placing them in suitable roles.

At Hotel Institute Montreux, students also study a new language, an experience Sally relishes. One of her goals as a student is to develop an intermediate level of German and Chinese. Upon graduation, Sally plans to travel to different parts of Asia to gain diverse experiences in the industry with the hope of one day returning to her home country Korea to land her dream job in Human Resources.

For now, Sally is soaking in the experiences as an international student who loves exploring new cultures. Students from all over the world come to Hotel Institute Montreux to study, creating an environment where everyone is exposed to different customs, cuisines and languages. The exposure to different backgrounds is valuable for a career in the hospitality industry, where both staff and guests come together from different parts of the world.

As her career goals and future path sharpens into focus, Sally knows she made the right choice in selecting Hotel Institute Montreux for her studies.

After the completion of my first internship, I know that education choice was the right one for me. My studies combined with the practical experience has already helped me gain a much deeper understanding of the industry and my place in it.

Sally Jeong is currently a Bachelor of Business Adminstration in Hospitality Management Term 4 student at Hotel Institute Montreux.
